‘Govt takes initiative to enact law on AI’

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said that the government has taken the initiative to formulate a law on Artificial Intelligence (AI) considering the advancement of global technology.

The law minister said this at a meeting with a delegation of Center for NRB at the Secretariat.

Anisul Huq said preliminary discussions are being held on this (AI Act).

However, the stakeholders must be consulted before enacting this law.

Stating that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government always wants to enact people-friendly laws, the law minister said that is why her government has kept an opportunity to discuss with the stakeholders in the matter of enacting laws.

In response to the demands of Centre for NRB Chairperson MS Shekil Chowdhury, the head of the delegation, the law minister said that he would take steps to ensure that non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) can also take part in the meeting held with the stakeholders in the legislative process and express their views.

Anisul Huq said that due to the need of the time, the government has enacted a strict information technology law along with the establishment of Digital Bangladesh.

“Virtual courts also got established. The Evidence Act of the British period has been modernized. Now people of all classes and professions, domestic and foreign, are getting the benefits of these activities of the government,” the minister said.
