NN Online:
Thousands of government employees staged demonstrations at the Secretariat on Monday, calling for the immediate repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.

The protest began around 10:45 a.m., led by Md Badiul Kabir, President of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Coordinated Council, alongside the Council’s Secretary General, Nizam Uddin Ahmed.

Demonstrators gathered in front of Building No. 6 before launching a protest march across the Secretariat premises. By 11 a.m., another faction of the Coordinated Council—led by Md Nurul Islam and Mujahidul Islam—joined the movement, amplifying the rally.

Chanting slogans such as “Repeal the illegal black law,” “We reject this ordinance,” “18 lakh employees—unite and resist,” and “No compromise, only struggle,” protesters demanded the immediate withdrawal of the newly issued ordinance.

A growing number of employees from various ministries and departments left their offices to join the demonstration, swelling the crowd as the protest gained momentum.

The ordinance, promulgated by the President on Sunday evening, permits the government to dismiss employees for four categories of disciplinary violations through a show-cause notice—bypassing formal departmental procedures.

Following the Council of Advisers’ approval of the draft law on May 22, Secretariat staff began voicing strong opposition, labeling the ordinance unjust and unconstitutional.

All Secretariat employee organizations reaffirmed on Sunday that they would continue their movement until the law is repealed.
