The Bangladesh government has rejected as “completely false” a claim circulating on X (formerly Twitter) that alleged a ban on Hindus in public service.

The claim, shared by the X account of Times Algebra, was debunked by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing in a statement issued on its verified Facebook page, CA Press Wing Facts on Thursday.

In its clarification, the Press Wing stated, “The Bangladesh government does not discriminate against any citizen based on religion,” emphasizing that the alleged quote attributed to the Home Affairs Adviser in the post was fabricated.

Earlier, following the political changeover in Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, several reports emerged from Indian media and social platforms claiming widespread oppression of Hindus in Bangladesh.

These allegations quickly garnered attention, fueling regional tensions and international scrutiny. However, subsequent investigations by credible fact-checking organizations revealed that a significant portion of these claims were based on fabricated or manipulated content.

Many of the viral videos and images purportedly showing attacks on Hindu communities were found to be either unrelated or doctored. For instance, videos from unrelated incidents in other countries or past events were repurposed and presented as recent occurrences in Bangladesh.
