Business Report :

The government has permitted Sincos Automation Technologies Limited, a private firm, to import one million tonnes of sugar and lentils for distribution under the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh’s (TCB) essential commodity sales programme.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) recently issued an official order approving the company’s request for the imports. Under the approval, Sincos Automation Technologies Limited will be allowed to import in 0.5 million tonnes of sugar and 0.5 million tonnes of lentils.

An MoC official said that under the Import Policy Order 2021-2024, imports of sugar and lentils through Letters of Credit (LCs) are permitted on a commercial basis. The order also requires that imported items comply with international standards as well as the specifications of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).

The official further noted that the imported sugar and lentils will be sold through TCB’s ongoing programme, which supplies essential commodities, including edible oil, sugar, and lentils, at subsidised prices to around 6 million families across the country.
