City Desk :

Officials and employees of various government and autonomous institutions have called for inclusion in the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) pension system, citing long-term deprivation compared to other public-sector staff.

They argue that the national pay scale 2015 ensured salary and allowance parity, but left pension and post-retirement benefits unequal for officers and employees working in high-risk and essential services.

According to their statement, the existing pay scale provides an average annual inflation adjustment of around 8 percent, while from 2005 to 2014 the general pensionable salary rose by only 8 percent in total, says a PDB release.

They say that, unlike other sectors where bank interest and savings schemes help offset inflation, pensioners in their institutions have effectively lost over 50 percent of their purchasing power.
