Govt official rescued from honey trap 4 arrested

Police have rescued a government official named Mehedi Hasan (42), two days after he was abducted in a honey trap in Savar, Dhaka. At the same time, four members of the abduction gang, including a woman, have been arrested.
The arrested persons were sent to court on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, they were detained from the Jamsing neighborhood of the municipality area.
Rescued Mehedi Hasan is a Family Planning Inspector of Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat district.
The arrested members of the abduction gang are: Shariful (25), son of Joynal of Pirgacha police station in Rangpur district; Md. Joynal (25), son of Abdul Hakim of the same police station; Sokal Anmona (19), daughter of Abdur Razzak of Ishwarganj police station in Mymensingh district; and Md. Kawser Hossain Konok (20), son of Bajlu Mia of Nokla police station in Sherpur district.
According to police sources, on October 2, the gang abducted Mehedi Hasan from in front of the mini zoo at the C&B area of Savar on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. Later, the abductors held him captive and demanded Tk 5 lakh in ransom from his family. When the victim’s family reported the matter to Savar Model Police Station through the emergency helpline number 999, a police team launched a rescue operation. With the help of information technology, he was eventually rescued.
During the operation, police seized a “leguna” vehicle used in the abduction. A case has also been filed at Savar Model Police Station over the incident.
Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Zakir Al-Ahsan said the arrested persons were sent to court on Saturday afternoon.
