The government has launched a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the operational and creative capacity of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam announced on Wednesday.
Speaking at a focus group discussion organized by the BFDC at the ministry’s meeting room, Mahfuj Alam emphasized the need to fully utilize the country’s vast film market and unlock the sector’s potential. He called on all stakeholders in the industry—including those at the BFDC—to play a proactive role in this transformation.
“The government is committed to supporting the infrastructural and skill development of the BFDC,” said the adviser. “It’s not just about buildings and studios—we must also invest in human resources to bring about meaningful change in the film industry.”
Highlighting progress on the under-construction film city in Kabirpur, Mahfuj Alam noted that industry insiders have expressed strong enthusiasm about its potential to serve as a hub for modern filmmaking in Bangladesh.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana echoed the adviser’s views, stressing the need to renovate existing BFDC facilities to make them more suitable for contemporary film production. She also underscored the importance of improving the aesthetic appeal of the new film city in Kabirpur.
BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani, along with ministry officials, directors, producers, and other key figures in the film industry, attended the event. The discussion focused on enhancing institutional support, modernizing infrastructure, and creating a conducive environment for filmmakers and creatives.
