The Cabinet Division has issued a set of seven precautionary directives aimed at protecting government officials from fraud, cyber threats, and potential exploitation by vested interest groups and foreign intelligence agencies. The move comes as part of a broader initiative to reinforce internal security and vigilance across government institutions.
In an official circular addressed to all senior secretaries and secretaries of ministries and divisions, the Cabinet Division stressed the urgent need for heightened awareness and preventive measures in response to emerging forms of deception and manipulation targeting public servants.
The letter urged officials to remain alert and to report any unusual or suspicious activity immediately to the appropriate law enforcement or intelligence agencies. It further warned that individuals found complicit in such activities could face legal consequences under applicable laws.
Among the key precautions, officials were advised not to disclose personal information-such as job titles, office addresses, or daily routines-on social media platforms, as this could expose them to surveillance or cyberattacks.
The directive also flagged the increasing prevalence of online scams, including attempts involving deceptive or provocative content aimed at blackmailing or coercing officials. It cautioned against sharing sensitive information, images, or documents during online communications, even with seemingly trustworthy contacts.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining professional boundaries, the Cabinet Division advised officials to avoid unnecessary familiarity with strangers or casual acquaintances that could lead to compromised situations.
To ensure widespread compliance, senior officials have been instructed to disseminate these guidelines to employees at all levels-from central ministries to subordinate offices-so that all government staff are equipped to recognise and counter digital fraud, espionage, and other security threats.
The directive forms part of a wider effort to safeguard national interests and uphold the integrity of the public administration in the face of increasingly complex security challenges.
