Govt has made corruption tool for ruling, not only NID, passports are also available at a price

It is very perturbing to know that some Election Commission officials in collusion with the criminals outside the Commission are providing the National Identity Card (NID) to Rohingyas in Chattogram. According to yesterday’s reports, this syndicate is taking Tk 1.30 lakh per head for each NID. No, this is not the first time that this outrageous illegal act has taken place. Two times before, the law enforcers uncovered this crime.
There are good reasons to take this matter very seriously. Firstly, Rohingyas are not citizens of Bangladesh nor have they been taken permanently by the country. Since their exodus to Bangladesh in the face of brutal persecution in the hands of Myanmar military, efforts are underway from Bangladesh, albeit still unsuccessfully, to send them back to their country of which they had been citizens until the military stripped their citizenship in 1982.
This denial of citizenship clearly tells why Rohingya Muslims suffered violent persecution by Myanmar at different times. The military establishment in the country does not even want to call them ‘Rohingyas’, to them they are ‘Bengalis’. But they are Myanmar’s born citizens, and they have been so for a long time. Therefore, if any of the Rohingya gets the Bangladesh NID, the evil plan of the Myanmar military becomes successful and it will undermine Bangladesh’s effort for their repatriation.
On the Rohingya repatriation issue, the international community is with Bangladesh. Countries such as China, India and Russia, up until now, extended help to Myanmar on the matter, but did not ever recognize ‘Rohingyas’ as ‘Bengalis’ as Myanmar’s military mischievously does. Even on Wednesday the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said that Rohingyas must go back to Myanmar and his country is silently working on this. Bangladesh has to tap the support of these three countries on Rohingyas repatriation.
Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to be on guard so that the Rohingyas do not infiltrate into the Bangladesh population, either illegally obtaining the NID card or without the card. It is reported that the syndicate that provides Bangladesh NID to Rohingya people also manages the original birth certificate for Rohingyas so that they can easily get NID cards. How could that be where the government is steeped in corruption?
