Bangladesh Ambassador to Lebanon, Air Vice Marshal Javed Tanveer Khan, has been instructed to return immediately to Dhaka amid the ongoing conflict leading to volatile situation there.
An office order signed by Mohammad Nazmul Haque, Director General (Administration) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday stated that Ambassador Javed Tanveer Khan should relinquish his current responsibilities at the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut and return to the headquarters in Dhaka without delay.
This move comes in the context of the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, which has led to efforts to bring back Bangladeshi citizens residing in the country.
So far, 1,142 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated. In light of this situation, the Ambassador has been directed to return to Dhaka.
The decision to call back the ambassador underscores the gravity of the situation in Lebanon, where violence and instability have intensified.
The conflict has triggered the urgent repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals who were residing in Lebanon, with the Bangladesh government successfully bringing back 1,142 citizens to date.
The withdrawal of the ambassador also reflects the challenging diplomatic environment in Lebanon, where foreign diplomats face increased risks due to the ongoing hostilities
Moreover, the decision may impact the operations of the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, as key diplomatic functions could be disrupted in the absence of the ambassador.
