The main opposition party-BNP’s Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan on Sunday said that the Awami League government has no ground under its feet.

“The government has no ground under its feet. It has no base among the people. This government is staying in the vacuum,” Dr. Moyeen Khan said while addressing as the chief guest a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal organised the discussion meeting marking BNP founder former President Ziaur Rahman’s 88th birth anniversary.

Despite holding the 7 January national elections, Moyeen Khan has expressed the doubt whether the Sheikh Hasina’s government will be able to complete its full tenure.

“Many people are questioning if this AL government would sustain for five years? No one could imagine before falling of the autocrat HM Ershad from power. This government has no ground under its feet,” he said.

Dr. Moyeen Khan alleged that the ruling Awami League does not believe in democracy.

“Awami League turned multi-party democracy into Bakshal and BNP transformed Bakshal into a multi-party democracy. This is the difference between Awami League and the BNP,” the BNP leader said.

Dr. Moyeen Khan asserted that none can erase the true history of Bangladesh, despite repeated attempts to do so.

He reiterated his party’s claim that Ziaur Rahman was the pronouncer of the Liberation War – a claim which the AL deny.

“Ziaur Rahman had announced the independence of Bangladesh from Kalurghat in Chattogram. It is the true history. Awami League did not perform their responsibility. They had fled. It is not possible to be a leader through lying ,” Dr. Moyeen said.

Recalling Zia’s role in Bangladesh politics, Dr. Moyeen Khan said the country’s development was actually commenced by Ziaur Rahman through his roles in increasing remittance inflow and the growing garment industry and RMG exporting, which Bangladesh now boasts of. It is the reality of the country’s economic history, he said.
