Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman has said that ensuring good governance is imperative to provide corruption-free services in both government and non-government institutions.

“Institutional good governance must be ensured to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Above all, good governance is essential to guarantee corruption-free services in every office,” he said while addressing a workshop on “Sustainable Development Goals and Institutional Good Governance.”

The workshop was jointly organised by TIB and the Chattogram Socheton Nagorik Committee (SNAC) held at the Divisional Commissioner’s Conference Room in Chattogram on Wednesday. Dr. Iftekharuzzaman stressed that without good governance, people are deprived of their rights and corruption flourishes.

He said democratic practices need to be nurtured within every government institution to ensure accountability and participation.

The workshop was attended by heads of 45 government offices at the divisional level and senior representatives from 10 non-governmental organizations.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner (routine charge) Mohammad Nurullah Nuri, in his presidential speech, called upon everyone to work with patriotism, noting that fulfilling one’s assigned duties properly is itself an act of patriotism.

He urged the participating offices to develop action plans for implementing the National Integrity Strategy.

The event was conducted by Engineer Md. Delwar Hossain Majumdar, president of SANC. Welcome remarks were delivered by Advocate Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury, former president of the organisation.

Other discussants included Dr. Md. Saifur Rahman, Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP; Md. Abul Hossain, Divisional Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission; Prof Md Fazlul Kader Chowdhury, Director of Secondary and Higher Education; Md Abdus Salam, Divisional Manager of Bureau Bangladesh; Sadia Rahman, Deputy Director of Ghashful; Utpal Barua, CEO of Bright Bangladesh Forum; and Kazi Shafiqul Rahman, Coordinator of Civic Engagement at TIB.
