The Gono Odhikar Parishad has issued an ultimatum for the arrest of those who attacked its spokesperson, Faruk Hasan, within 24 hours. The party has warned that if the attackers are not arrested within this time, they will besiege the Ministry of Home Affairs in protest.

Condemning the attack on Faruk Hasan and calling for the arrest of the attackers, the Gono Odhikar Parishad organised a protest rally at the Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday where they placed this demand.

After the protest, a procession led by the Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur marched towards Shahbagh Police Station.

He said, “If the attackers are not arrested within the next 24 hours, our activists will take action. The name of Sarjis has repeatedly come up in connection with this attack. I hope he will clarify his position. There may also be a foreign conspiracy behind this attack.”

Along with raising the same demand, Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan called for the banning of the Awami League during the rally. He criticised the advisory council, saying, “I want to tell the chief adviser to appoint new advisers, excluding those who do not understand the pulse of the people.

“If the attackers of Faruk are not arrested within 24 hours, we will besiege the home affairs ministry.”

On Saturday afternoon, Gono Odhikar Parishad Senior Vice President Faruk Hasan was attacked during a citizens’ rally organised by the National Revolutionary Parishad at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.

He is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
