Activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad staged a demonstration at Dhaka’s Paltan intersection on Wednesday afternoon, halting traffic as they pressed a three-point demand.
The protesters demanded swift trial of those involved in attacks on party leaders, including its president Nurul Haque Nur, the resignation of the home affairs adviser, and a ban on the politics of the Jatiyo Party and other allies of the former ruling coalition.
Vehicular movement in and around the busy intersection came to a standstill during the protest, police said. Motijheel Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police Hossain Mohammad Farabi told the media that law enforcers had been deployed to maintain order.
“They are pressing their demands, and we are working to persuade them to clear the road to ease public suffering,” he said.
