The Gono Odhikar Parishad has called for the rebranding of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and significant administrative reforms, including the replacement of superintendents of police (SP) and officers-in-charge (OC) nationwide.
They have also demanded that the Awami League, along with its student and youth wings—Chhatra League and Jubo League—be banned as terrorist organizations, reports media.
Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders, including President Nurul Haque Nur and General Secretary Rashed Khan, met with the home affairs adviser at the Secretariat on Wednesday to present these demands.
In their proposal, the Gono Odhikar Parishad urged the authorities to identify and arrest those responsible for attacks on peaceful student and public protests, including those who ordered the use of live fire against demonstrators.
Additionally, they called for the immediate dismissal of Home Secretary Jahangir Alam, divisional Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of police, and other partisan officials, insisting that individuals involved in corruption and criminal activities be swiftly brought to justice.
To restore law and order promptly and ensure the safety and morale of the police, the Gono Odhikar Parishad recommended the deployment of 10 military personnel to each police station.
They also stressed the importance of eradicating bribery and corruption at all levels of the police force, including within passport and immigration services, to establish a more public-friendly policing system.
The party further demanded that any complaints of misconduct, corruption, or irregularities against police officers be investigated and resolved within a month.
Additionally, they called for operations to recover illegal weapons and to collect legally registered ones.
Moreover, the Gono Odhikar Parishad urged the reinstatement of those unjustly dismissed from their jobs and called for the recruitment of new police officers as needed.
