Global media spotlight on historic Hadi’s Janaza

Staff Reporter :

Millions joined the funeral of Inquilab Moncho Convener Sharif Osman Hadi on Saturday (December 20) at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, including state dignitaries and politicians. International media highlighted the massive turnout at the event.

Qatar-based Al Jazeera published a photo of the huge crowd, noting that the janaza and burial of the 2024 student-led movement leader had concluded, with Bangladesh observing a national day of mourning. It also reported extensive security preparations by law enforcement.

Reuters stated that interim government chief Prof. Muhammad Yunus joined millions at the funeral of the young leader, buried beside National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s grave to honor his heroic role in recent history.

Pakistan’s Dawn headlined: “Slain youth leader buried in Bangladesh amid tight security.” It added that millions, including the interim leader, attended under heavy security.

India’s Times of India provided live updates, headlining Prof. Yunus’s words: “You will never be forgotten.” ND TV’s headline read: “His blood will not go in vain,” echoed by millions at the janaza.

Turkish TRT World, Pakistan’s Geo News, and other top global outlets emphasized the nation’s love for Hadi.

Hadi was shot by miscreants in Purana Paltan on December 12 and fought for life in Dhaka Medical College, Evercare, and a Singapore hospital before passing away last Thursday (December 18) at 9:30 PM Bangladesh time.
