An young girl reportedly committed suicide in the residence of one Abdur Rahman Rana at Mahakhali, Dhaka on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Nusrat Jahan Banni (24), daughter of Ahasan Ullah from village Amtola in Belabo Upazila under Narshingdi District. Sources said that Banni and Abdur Rahman knew each other from before.
Rana said, Banni came to his house on March 3 and since then she was living here. When she was asked about the reason of her coming here, Banni said that she left her father’s residence out of anger.
On Thursday noon at about 1 pm, Banni drank poison. Rana rushed her to nearest Bakshobaydhi Hospital in a serious condition. The doctor suggested for taking the patient to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared her dead at around 3.00 pm.
Rana is an actor by profession. He admitted that Banni had good relationship with him for last six months. But they were undecided about marriage. He refused to say anything about the reason of committing suicide.
But the deceased’s father Ahsan Ullah claimed that Rana had killed her daughter. When Banni left his residence, she said that she would stay in a lady’s hostel. She had Tk two lakh with her at the time of departure. “We had no idea that she was living with Rana at Mahakhali,” said Ahsan Ullah.
DMCH outpost Sub-Inspector Mozammel Haque detained Rana for interrogation. The body has been sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
