Giant cow ‘Foni-2’ awaits buyer ahead of Eid in Barishal

A massive sacrificial cow named Foni-2, weighing approximately 30 maunds (roughly 1,200 kg), is drawing attention in Banaripara upazila of Barishal district for its extraordinary size and daily diet.

Owned by Abdus Salam and his son Shakil Suman of Jangalia village under Chakhar union, Foni-2 consumes nearly 70 kilograms of food per day-excluding grass. The cow measures an impressive 12 feet in length and 6 feet in height.

Named after Cyclone Foni, which struck the region in 2019, the cow has been lovingly raised over three years by the family. “It’s like a member of our household,” said Suman, noting that the animal receives round-the-clock care, sleeps under a mosquito net, enjoys fan-cooled shelter, and is bathed twice daily.

The cow’s diet consists of wheat husk, corn husk, sorghum husk, soybean husk, chickpea husk, and broken corn, along with khudu, kheil, banana, and grass.
