NN Online:
A garment worker named Hridoy was allegedly tortured to death at a factory in Gazipur, sparking outrage among workers and prompting an indefinite factory shutdown.

An ambulance was seen arriving at the factory around 10:14 am Saturday and left just seven minutes later. Photos and videos of Hridoy’s body revealed severe bruises and injuries on his knees, back, waist, wrists, elbows, fingers, neck, and face.

Police suspect the factory authorities attempted to cover up the incident by sending Hridoy’s body to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital as if he were still alive. However, hospital records confirm he was brought in dead.

The incident enraged local workers. On Sunday, hundreds from Greenland and nearby factories blocked roads and hurled stones at the factory, demanding justice. Police and army personnel were deployed to restore order.

Following the unrest, the factory management went into hiding, posting a closure notice at the gate declaring an indefinite shutdown.

Hridoy’s brother, Liton Mia, has filed a murder case with Konabari Police Station, accusing unidentified individuals of killing Hridoy and attempting to cover it up. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible.
