The bi-annual conference of Gangachara Upazila BNP was held on March 23, culminating in the election of a new leadership committee through a democratic voting process. The event was conducted in two sessions-an inaugural session at the Upazila Multipurpose Hall, followed by the voting session at Gangachara Senior Madrasa.
During the election, Md. Chand Sarkar was elected as President, securing 247 votes with the Umbrella symbol, defeating Waheduzzaman Mabu, who received 177 votes with the Chair symbol.
For the position of Senior Vice President, Shafiqul Islam Chan won with 302 votes (Ladder symbol), surpassing Asaduzzaman Rafu, who secured 167 votes (Candle symbol).
Ayub Ali was elected as General Secretary, receiving 317 votes (Football symbol), narrowly defeating Akheruzzaman Milon, who garnered 304 votes (Horse symbol). In the contest for Joint General Secretary, Abdul Bari Belal emerged victorious with 414 votes (Fish symbol), defeating Ashraful Islam, who secured 163 votes (Rooster symbol).
Additionally, two Organizing Secretaries were elected: Apel Mahmud received 279 votes (Airplane symbol), Mizanur Rahman Lulu secured 260 votes (Lock & Key symbol).
The event was graced by the presence of Md. Abdul Khalek, BNP National Executive Committee’s Assistant Organizational Secretary (Rangpur Division), as the chief guest. Professor Aminul Islam inaugurated the conference, while District BNP Convenor Md. Saiful Islam served as the keynote speaker. Anisur Rahman Laku, the District BNP Member Secretary, was a special speaker at the event.
The first session commenced with the national and party anthems, followed by a flag hoisting ceremony.
The election was conducted under the supervision of a committee formed by the District BNP, ensuring a transparent and democratic process. Enthusiasm was high among party leaders and activists, as this was the first conference in 11 years, making it a historic and festive occasion.
The successful conclusion of the conference marks a significant milestone in strengthening the BNP’s grassroots organizational structure in Gangachara Upazila.
