A young woman (22) from Tangail has been accused of gang rape. Police have arrested 3 accused in this incident. They were arrested from their homes on Saturday morning. The arrested are Dulal Chandra (28), son of Sentu Chandra Das, of Brahmankusia Sutar Para area ofTangail Sadar Police Station, Sajib Khan (19), son of Halim Khan, and Rupu Mia (27), son of the late Kismat Mia. The arrested are CNG drivers by profession.
Police said that the young woman came to Dhaka Airport Railway Station from Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria on Friday night. From there, she boarded the North Bengal-bound express train to go to Chittagong by mistake. During this time, she fell asleep. When she woke up and asked other passengers, they told her about Tangail. Later, the woman got down at Gharinda Railway Station in Tangail around 12:30 am. At that time, the woman got down at the station and informed the GRP police about the matter. A member of the GRP police told the CNG driver Dulal to pick her up on a train to Dhaka. At that time, Dulal lured the young woman and first took her to the woodshed behind the station and raped her. Later, she took her to the house of the accused Rupu Mia in Brahmankusia adjacent to the station and was raped by Rupu Mia and Sajib Khan.
After this incident, the young woman went to the railway station in the morning and informed the railway police about the rape, who informed the police station. The police conducted a raid and arrested the three accused in the morning. The woman filed a complaint with the police station as a complainant.
Tangail Police Station OC Tanvir Ahmed said, “We have received the complaint. The accused have been arrested. The legal process is ongoing.”
