Ganasanghati Andolon shook the streets in front of Bangladesh Bank, demanding transparency with the release of a list of loan defaulters and money launderers, along with full autonomy for the central bank.
However, their march was thwarted by police intervention.
As they attempted to mobilize from Notre Dame College on Tuesday (May 21) around noon, police blocked their path before they could reach Shapla Chattar. Despite this setback, leaders and activists of Ganasanghati Andolon held a spirited rally at the location.
During the rally, Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganasanghati Andolon, lambasted the government, denouncing their alleged mismanagement of funds in the guise of power generation. Saki warned, “The list of loan defaulters must see daylight by June 30.
Failure to comply will bring us back in even greater numbers. Make your choice: serve the people or vacate your positions.”
Joined by other prominent figures including Abul Hasan Rubel, Taslima Akhter, Monir Uddin Pappu, Bacchu Bhuiyan, Zulhasnain Babu, Dipak Kumar Roy, and Tarikul Sujon, the rally echoed calls for accountability and reform.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of the protest, additional police forces were deployed at Bangladesh Bank since the early hours to ensure security.
