Gafargaon journos hold meeting with UNO

A meeting of journalists was held with Gafargaon Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) N. M. Abdullah-al-Mamun and government officials in Mymensingh.
The meeting was held at the Gafargaon Press Club auditorium on Wednesday afternoon.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer N.M. Abdullah-al-Mamun was present as the chief guest at the meeting organized by Gafargaon Press Club.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Amir Salman Rony, Additional Superintendent of Police Mantosh Sarkar were present as special guests.
Officials from various departments of the upazila were also present at the meeting.
Under the chairmanship of Robel Mahmud, convener of Gafargaon Press Club, and moderated by joint convener Mofazzal Ansari, the meeting was attended by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Md. Jamal Uddin, Senior Fisheries Officer Malik Tanvir Hossain, Agriculture Officer Sakura Namni, Upazila Animal Resources Officer Md. Matiur Rahman, OC of Gafargaon Police Station Muhammad Shibirul Islam and officials from various departments of the upazila.
Ekushey Television Newsroom Editor and writer Samar Islam participated in the meeting as a journalist guest. UNO N. M. Abdullah-al-Mamun said at the meeting, ‘Constructive criticism from the media is very important to ensure transparency and accountability in the activities of the administration. The upazila administration is always ready to cooperate with journalists.’ In the meeting, journalists highlighted
various problems, corruption and public suffering in the area.
They said that the administration needs to play a more effective role in increasing monitoring of development projects and improving the quality of services in government offices.
The former president of the Gafargaon Press Club, a journalist of the Daily Ittefaq Ataur Rahman Mintu said, ‘Journalism is not just a profession, but a big moral responsibility. We are always ready to play a positive role in the development and good governance of Gafargaon.’
Kamruzzaman Liton, Shafiul Alam Maruf, Syed Asaduzzaman Sohel, Md. Azharul Haque, Matiur Rahman, and others spoke at the exchange of views among the journalists.
At the exchange of views, government officials mentioned their overall cooperation by providing information and data to journalists.
At the exchange of views, everyone expressed hope that good governance and good journalism would be established through professional excellence between the local administration and journalists.
