Gaan Bangla TV CEO Taposh sent to jail

A court here on Monday sent to jail Gaan Bangla television channel CEO and musician Kaushik Hossain Taposh in a case lodged over attempt to murder businessman Ishtiak Mahmud during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced Taposh before the court and pleaded to place him on seven-day remand in the case.

The court, however, sent the accused to jail, setting November 6 for holding hearing on the remand plea.

The court passed the order as the investigation officer of the case was absent during today’s hearing.

Earlier, law enforcers arrested him from Gulshan area of the city.

According to the case statement, on July 18, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, businessman Ishtiaque Mahmud and others participated in a quota reform movement.

Supporters of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League attacked and fired shots to the demonstrators near Nawab Habibullah High School in Sector 4 of Uttara East.

At the time Ishtiaque sustained a bullet wound in his abdomen and received treatment at Evercare Hospital.

On September 29, Ishtiaque filed a case with Uttara East police station against 126 individuals, including former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
