In a recent statement, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured that the Home Ministry will offer full cooperation to the United Nations (UN) fact-finding team investigating alleged crimes and acts against humanity that occurred between June 5 and August 5.

“The Home Ministry will provide extensive cooperation to the UN fact-finding team to ensure that the investigation is conducted in an independent, thorough, fair, and impartial manner,” said Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The adviser made these comments following a meeting with a three-member delegation from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), led by Rory Mungoven, Chief of the Asia-Pacific region. The briefing took place at the ministry.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted that Bangladesh has deployed a record number of military and law enforcement personnel in UN peacekeeping missions.

He urged the UN delegation to continue its support, noting that Bangladesh ranks first in terms of personnel in these missions.

The Home Affairs Adviser also mentioned that the UN delegation praised the performance of Bangladeshi peacekeepers abroad and expressed a commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s efforts.

Rory Mungoven requested that law enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry preserve accurate data and information related to the alleged crimes and human rights violations during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

He urged the agencies to assist the UN fact-finding team by providing necessary information when requested.
