Fugitive killers yet to be held, others roaming freely on campus

The four fugitive killers of Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed is yet to be arrested even after passing of two days of their fleeing from the court after a Dhaka court quashed their bail on Sunday.
The university administration urged the law enforcers to arrest them as soon as possible, confirmed Proctor Dr Mujibur Rahman on Tuesday.
The family members of Zubair blamed the police negligence and demanded immediate arrest of the killers for awarding capital punishment.
Sources said, Khandakar Ashiqul Islam, Khan Mohammad Rais, Mahbub Akram and Ishtiaq Arup appeared on the court and
 pleaded for bail on Sunday afternoon.
Bail pleas were also filed for accused Rashedul Islam and Zahidul Islam, but they did not appear. The six are all activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 4 Judge ABM Nizamul Haque cancelled the bail plea of the six after hearing.
Soon after the bail plea was rejected, the four accused fled from court premises, the court’s Public Prosecutor SM Rafiqul Islam confirmed.
On the other hand, despite being suspended from Jahangirnagar University (JU), three others of the 13 Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men accused in the Zubair murder case are not only residing in the halls, one of them is still employed at the university.
Witness and sources confirmed that some continued with their academic lives and were roaming the campus freely and sometimes used to stay overnight in JU halls. But, university administration denied the matter.
The JU probe report is yet to be made public although it was scheduled to be published on January 10 lastly.
Honours final year English student Zubair, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League, was killed by his party men on the campus on January 8, 2012. A case is underway against 13 BCL men for the killing.
Zubair Ahmed, an honours final year student of the English Department of Jahangirnagar University, was stabbed to death on January 9, 2012 by a section of the JU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Zubair had left politics sometime before the incident, and was concentrating on his studies. He was preparing to attend the BCS examination, hoping to help his family have a better life.
