Chhatra League leader Rahim Uddin Raju (33), accused in a cyber case who stabbed a CID officer a nd fled in Sylhet, has been arrested in a police operation.
He was arrested from a mess in Syed Bari in Majumdari area of the city at around 4 pm on Tuesday (December 9).
Arrested Raju is the son of Rafiq Uddin of Paschim Konagram in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet. He currently lives in Tilagarh Shaplabagh area of the city.
He had been identifying himself as a central member of the banned Chhatra League.
At a press conference organized at the Special Police Superintendent’s Office of CID Sylhet on Tuesday, DIG Dr. Md. Al Mamunul Ansari said that Rahim Uddin Raju was a fugitive accused in the Cyber Security Ordinance case. Around 9 pm on Monday, when the investigating officer of the case, Khorshed Alam of CID, went to arrest him in the Sagardighirpar area, he stabbed him and fled. Khorshed Alam suffered a deep wound of about three inches under his left armpit.
Later, after undergoing surgery, he is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Kotwali Police Station and Airport Police Station jointly conducted a raid and arrested Raju from the Majumdari area. During the arrest, a visiting card was recovered from him, which stated that he was a central member of the Chhatra League.
CID Sylhet Special Superintendent of Police Sugyan Chakma said that there are a total of 6 cases against Rahim Uddin Raju on various charges, including the Cyber Security Act.
