NN Online:
The government has revised fuel prices, lowering the cost of diesel, octane, and petrol while raising the price of kerosene. The new rates take effect from midnight on Sunday, as per a notification from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division issued on Saturday.
Under the latest adjustment, diesel is reduced by Tk 2 per litre, bringing the new price to Tk 102 from the previous Tk 104. Octane and petrol are each reduced by Tk 3 per litre, now costing Tk 122 and Tk 118 respectively, down from Tk 125 and Tk 121.
However, kerosene has seen a sharp increase of Tk 10 per litre and will now be sold at Tk 114, up from Tk 104. This change results in a Tk 4-per-litre difference between kerosene and petrol, aligning with the new pricing guideline introduced earlier this month to curb fuel adulteration.
On May 19, the Energy Division introduced the “Automated Fuel Pricing Guidelines,” which mandate that kerosene be priced Tk 4 lower than petrol. Previously, diesel and kerosene shared the same price point.
Bangladesh now follows a monthly automated fuel pricing mechanism, adjusting prices based on fluctuations in the international oil market. The division stated that the latest update is intended to maintain an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products at more affordable rates for June.
Notably, this is the second fuel price revision this month. On May 1, prices of all fuel types were reduced by Tk 2 per litre.
