Metro rail operations were halted for half an hour due to a mechanical fault earlier in the day, causing significant inconvenience for office-bound passengers.
The incident occurred at 8:30am on Thursday, with normal service resuming around 9am, reports media.
According to reports, a Motijheel-bound train was stopped at Mirpur-11 station, while an Uttara-bound train was stuck at Mirpur-10 station.
Announcements were made from the platforms, informing passengers that the delay was due to a mechanical fault.
Attempts to reach officials from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the managing company of the metro rail, were unsuccessful.

The sudden stoppage of trains led to an increased number of passengers at the stations, causing crowding and discomfort as they tried to board the trains once service resumed.
Frustrated passengers took to social media to express their anger, highlighting that the metro rail’s reliability is being questioned due to service disruptions on two consecutive days.
Many noted that they no longer account for travel time saved by using the metro rail, and unexpected stoppages disrupt urgent work.
Regular commuter Saiful Islam commented: “When the metro rail stops, it creates uncertainty. There’s no guarantee when it will be fixed, so we have to consider additional time for travel.”
