Md. Abdus Sattar, Director of Planning, Project Implementation and ICT Wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension, said that there is no alternative to agricultural development to strengthen the country’s economic strength. Agriculture, a supporting force for national development and progress, must be developed in a modern way and technology must be utilized. The development of agriculture is undeniable to deal with the country’s food shortage and export new crops abroad. He called on those concerned to work for the development of agriculture by confronting natural disasters.
He was speaking at the Flood Reconstruction Emergency Assistance Project (FREP) organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet, at a prestigious hotel in the city on Tuesday (May 20) afternoon.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet Region, Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain presided over the workshop.
Key note paper presented by Dr. Taufiqur Rahman, Project Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension’s FRP Project. The rapporteur was Assistant Project Director (Monitoring) Shaon Majumder.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Project Director (Administration) Dr. Humayun Kabir and Fenchuganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Subrata Deb Nath. The workshop was attended by special guests, including Additional Director (Finance and Admin Wing) of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Dr. Mohammad Kazi Mojibur Rahman, Deputy Director of Administration and Finance Wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Md. 120 agricultural officers and farmer representatives of Sylhet Division were present at the day-long workshop.
It is worth noting that the three-year, Tk 3 billion FRP project will end in March 26. The project is ongoing in four districts of Sylhet including 7 Haor districts. The Agriculture Department, Water Development Board, LGRD, Public Health Engineering Department, Bangladesh Railway are implementing the project. Officials said that 65 percent of the work of this project has already been completed. In this project, crop production has increased through irrigation facilities through solar systems, production on fallow land, modern cultivation, and agricultural mechanization.
