JKKNIU Correspondent:
The orientation program for the first-year undergraduate (honors) students of the 2024–25 academic session was held at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU). The event took place on Sunday (17 August) at the university’s newly constructed TSC building.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam told the freshers, “You have proved your merit by getting admitted to Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. Now you must utilize that merit to move forward. You need to acquire all-around skills to become qualified. Whatever subject you study, you must excel in that field and leave a mark of distinction.”
The event’s chief guest, Bangladesh Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, addressed the newcomers saying, “Primary, secondary, and higher secondary education are your foundation. Those with a strong foundation have earned the opportunity to study here. Many parents want their children to become doctors or engineers, and if that is not possible, they are sent to study in a ‘good subject’ at university. But in reality, every subject is important. Whatever you study, you must gain in-depth knowledge of it. Education should not be pursued merely for a certificate.”
Special guests at the orientation included Treasurer Professor Dr. Zainul Abedin Siddiqui, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Convener of the Orientation Committee Professor Dr. Mohammad Imdadul Huda, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Member-Secretary of the Committee Professor Dr. A. H. M. Kamal, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Professor Dr. Sakhawat Hossain Sarkar, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science Professor Dr. Md. Bakhtiar Uddin, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Professor Dr. Muhammad Emdadur Rashed, Dean of the Faculty of Law Muhammad Irfan Aziz, Director of Student Counseling and Guidance Dr. Md. Ashraful Alam, and Proctor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman.
The welcome speech was delivered by Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, while the event was conducted by Md. Jillal Hossain, Lecturer of the Department of History.
On behalf of the newcomers, Humayra Mizan Insita of the Department of Law and Justice and Md. Robiul Islam of the Department of Film and Media Studies expressed their feelings. At the beginning of the ceremony, the freshers were greeted with sticks of tuberose. Later, they were given a folder, notebook, pen, and an academic calendar.
