Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party, BNP, has decided to initiate a new and robust movement to press for their demands, including the release and transfer of their party chief, Begum Khaleda Zia, abroad for essential advanced medical treatment.

This decision emerged from the National Standing Committee meeting held virtually on Monday.

Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who chaired the meeting, will discuss with relevant leaders to determine the next program for the unconditional release of Begum Khaleda Zia, following the Standing Committee’s decision.

Party insiders revealed that the high command has initiated a reshuffling of party unit and front body committees.

This move aims to bolster the party’s organizational strength to wage a strong movement for their demands, including a fresh national election.

The National Standing Committee members present in the meeting included Dr. Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

During the meeting, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir provided an update on the implementation progress of decisions made in the June 24, 2024, meeting.

The committee expressed satisfaction with the success of previous protest rallies held across cities and districts, including Dhaka, demanding the unconditional release of National Leader Begum Khaleda Zia.

The committee voiced concerns over the abnormal rise in daily necessity prices, inflation, and unprecedented domestic and foreign borrowing, which is creating a debt trap and imposing additional burdens on the populace.

To address these issues, a decision was made to enhance public awareness through leaflet distribution, gatherings, and processions, preparing detailed, information-rich reports to present to the public.

Additionally, the recent killings of two Bangladeshis by the Indian Border Guard at the Lalmonirhat and Thakargaon borders were strongly condemned.

The committee expressed strong displeasure over the government’s inaction to stop border killings, attributing the ongoing incidents to the government’s failure to pressure India effectively.

Immediate measures to halt these border killings were urged.
Organizational matters of the party were also discussed during the meeting.
