Four out of six burn victims die in N’ganj

In Narayanganj’s Rupganj area, four out of six people burned in a house fire have died. On Thursday morning, one of the victims, Babul (45), passed away. Residential Surgeon Dr. Tarikul Islam of the National Burn Institute confirmed Babul’s death, noting that 66% of his body was burned. Earlier, on Tuesday morning around 5:45 AM, Babul’s son Ismail (11) succumbed to his injuries, followed by his other son Sohel (20) at 9 AM, and his daughter Taslima (9) in the evening. Sohel had 70% burns, Ismail 55%, and Taslima 63%. Currently, Babul’s wife, Seli Begum (35), with 30% burns, and Sohel’s wife, Munni (18), with 20% burns, are under treatment, both in critical condition.
The tragic incident occurred just after midnight last Friday when a fire broke out in their home in the Dahargaon area under Rupganj Police Station. Their family is originally from Sujapur village in Nabiganj, Habiganj District.
Babul’s cousin Enamul explained that a compressor machine used to pump gas into their home exploded with a loud noise while the family was asleep, leading to the fire and injuries. He could not specify the exact cause of the explosion.
Enamul added that Babul was a construction worker, while Babul’s wife Seli worked at a garment factory called NZ.
Sohel was employed at another garment factory, Fakir Fashion, while Sohel’s wife Munni was a house wife. Ismail and Taslima stayed at home.
Inspector Mizanur Rahman Mizan from the Bhulta Police Outpost confirmed that the bodies have been handed over to the family.
