The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested two former Members of Parliament—Sabina Akter Tuhin, a former MP from a reserved seat, and Mohammad Faisal Biplob, former MP of Munshiganj-3—on separate charges, including corruption, political violence, and murder.
According to Joint Commissioner of DB (North) Mohammad Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, a team from DB’s Wari Division detained Sabina Akter Tuhin early Monday from her residence in Nawabganj upazila, Dhaka. She is accused in several cases involving corruption, inciting political violence, and conspiring against the state.
Meanwhile, Faisal Biplob was arrested Sunday evening from Monipuripara in the capital. He is reportedly a key suspect in a murder case tied to the violent events during last year’s July movement.
DB officials confirmed that both individuals had been under close surveillance for weeks due to their alleged involvement in recent incidents of political unrest and criminal activities.
A senior official from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, requesting anonymity, stated that the arrests were carried out based on substantial evidence and ongoing case investigations, rejecting any suggestion of political motivation.
Law enforcement authorities plan to seek remand for further interrogation and indicated that more arrests could follow as the investigation continues.
