Former Awami League lawmaker Kabirul Haque Mukti has been sent to jail after courts in Narail denied him bail in four sabotage cases filed under Kalia and Naragati police stations.
Mukti, the former MP from the Narail-1 constituency, was produced before the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in two cases filed by Kalia police at around 10am on Wednesday. Judge Ratna Saha rejected his bail petitions.
Later, he was taken to the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-2 for hearings in two other cases lodged by Naragati police. Judge Maruf Hasan also refused to grant bail and ordered his detention.
Mukti was brought to the Narail court under tight police security this morning. Public Prosecutor SM Abdul Haque of the District Sessions Judge Court confirmed the matter to the media.
Police had earlier arrested Mukti from the Niketan area of Gulshan in Dhaka on 24 September around 9:15pm. Following his arrest in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Gulshan Police Station, the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court placed him on a six-day remand the next day.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has also filed a separate corruption case against Mukti and his wife, Chandana Haque.
