Sylhet Bureau :
Former Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation BNP leader Ariful Haque Chowdhury held an urgent press conference on various demands including speedy completion of Dhaka-Sylhet highway, making railway tickets easier for general passengers, expanding railway coaches, changing the schedule with new trains, fixing air fares within purchasing power and stopping monopoly trade.
Ariful Haque Chowdhury, who was in his office at 3 pm on Friday, said in the press conference that he has called for a 1-hour strike at Court Point in Sylhet on Sunday, October 12. We will carry out this program with Sylhet transport businessmen, journalists, lawyers, doctors, school and college teachers, civil society and people from all walks of life. Why Sylhet is a victim of discrimination, we must answer this. The current interim government is completely indifferent to Sylhet. There is no representative of Sylhet in this government. Where Chittagong City Corporation has been allocated 20 crore taka for development, Sylhet has only 3 crore taka. Sylhet-Dhaka highway is now completely unfit for traffic. We are being swindled in the name of renovation and expansion work. Ordinary passengers do not get train tickets. Black marketers are doing illegal business by purchasing all the tickets online. Airline owners are doing monopoly business. Sylhet residents are being made fun of. I will not tolerate this anymore. What program have I called for on October 12? I will set a 15-day deadline for this program. If these discriminations do not end after that, I will call for a larger movement from the entire country to realize our demands.
