A court has ordered the freezing of 38 bank accounts belonging to former Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan, his wife Tahmida Begum, and their son Sheikh Labib Hannan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Saturday following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Akhtarul Islam, spokesperson of the ACC.

According to him, of the 38 accounts, five are in the name of Sheikh Abdul Hannan, one in the name of his son Sheikh Labib Hannan, and the remaining 32 are in the name of his wife Tahmida Begum. These accounts collectively hold Tk 11,834,322 (eleven million, eight hundred thirty-four thousand, three hundred twenty-two taka).

The petition for freezing the accounts was filed by ACC Deputy Director Tanzib Hasib Sarkar.
The petition stated that former Air Force Chief Sheikh Abdul Hannan is accused of abuse of power, causing financial loss to the state, accepting bribes, engaging in recruitment trade, and various other irregularities and corruption. Through these acts, he and his family members allegedly amassed a large amount of illegal wealth and laundered money abroad. The ACC is currently investigating these allegations.

According to reliable sources, the ACC has learned that the illegally obtained funds could be transferred at any time. To ensure a fair investigation, it is necessary to freeze these movable assets, the petition argued.
