Bangladesh is attending an emergency Arab-Muslim summit being held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in response to the recent Israeli airstrikes and to adopt a draft resolution against the Israeli attack.

Foreign Affairs Adviser M Touhid Hossain, who has already reached Doha on Sunday, will attend the summit scheduled to be held on Monday.

“Foreign Adviser arrived in Qatar this morning to attend the two-day Emergency Joint Arab-Islamic Summit,” Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

He is leading the Bangladesh delegation. Additional Foreign Secretary M Forhadul Islam, Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the OIC MJH Jabed and Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Hazrat Ali Khan also attended the meeting.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leaders from Arab and Muslim countries are gathering in Doha to protest Israel’s airstrikes targeting Hamas members.

The summit, hosted by the Qatari government, will see Adviser Touhid Hossain presenting Bangladesh’s position on the issue.

Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, Adviser to the Qatari Prime Minister and Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, said the summit will adopt a draft resolution on Israel’s recent attacks, which was first tabled at a preparatory meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers.

He stressed that the significance of the summit lies in demonstrating strong solidarity of the Arab and Muslim world with Qatar. Qatar has described Israel’s actions as “state terrorism.”

Commenting on the matter, Al-Ansari said the airstrike on a residential compound in Doha, where Hamas negotiators were staying, represented a cowardly act of aggression and a form of state terrorism carried out by Israel.

Last Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Doha, where Hamas leaders were present, killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer.

Reports say they were engaged in discussions on a new ceasefire deal proposed by the United States.

Qatar, along with the US and Egypt, has long been trying to mediate an end to the Gaza conflict.

Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has already arrived in Doha to join the preparatory meeting ahead of the summit.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned the strike as an “aggressive act” and assured Doha of its full solidarity.

Earlier on September 10, Bangladesh sharply condemned Israel’s airstrike on the Qatari capital, Doha, describing it as a blatant violation of sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Government of Bangladesh “unequivocally condemns the recent Israeli military aggression against the State of Qatar,” calling it both unlawful and unprovoked.

Dhaka reaffirmed what it called its “steadfast solidarity” with the Government and people of Qatar, stressing that Israel’s actions undermine regional stability, international peace, and global efforts to uphold the rule of law.

“Such actions constitute a clear violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity in Qatar, as well as of international law and the principles of the UN Charter,” Foreign Ministry said.

“The incident is yet another indication of Israel’s continued disregard for regional stability, international peace, and established international norms. Such actions undermine global efforts towards peace and security,” it added.

The statement urged the United Nations and other international stakeholders to ensure accountability for what it described as an unprovoked attack and a direct assault on the principles of multilateralism.
