Floods hit Morrelganj pry school twice in a month

The school grounds and classrooms of the government primary school in Khaulia Union unde Morelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district are being flooded twice a month. Students are in fear whenever the tide comes. Teachers, students and local guardians are demanding the construction of a cyclone shelter for the school.

It is known that the East Khaulia Government Primary School No. 125 in Khaulia Union of the Upazila was established in 1935, but the school building was built in 2000 with one floor and four rooms. Official activities are conducted in one room, while teaching is being conducted in the remaining three rooms. There are a total of 154 students.

There are 5 assistant teachers including the head teacher. At 2 pm on Monday, water was flowing all around the school. Teachers were teaching in the classroom. The eyes of the tender students showed a look of fear. They wondered if water would enter the classroom at any time. The school building, although shiny from the outside, has become fragile due to salinity. The plaster is peeling off in many places.

Several students including Abir Hossain, Hafiza Akhter, Mim Akhter, Tanvir Hossain told, our school gets flooded twice a month due to tidal water.
We cannot play sports in the campus do PT. When will there be a new building? If we do not fill the field and raise it, we will have problems playing sports.

We want a new solid building cum cyclone shelter. Assistant teacher of the school, Ujjal Kumar Roy, said, even though the school is on the riverbank, embankment work is currently underway. Due to the entry of tidal water, it is submerged in water twice a month. They demanded that the school campus should be raised with sand and a building be constructed here by the government without any delay.
