Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad inaugurated an assistance program for flood-affected families in Sylhet on Monday. The inauguration ceremony and an exchange of views meeting were held at the premises of SOS Children’s Village Sylhet in Dayamir Union, Osmani Nagar Upazila, on the afternoon of February 10.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Murad emphasized the importance of collective efforts in building a humane society. He highlighted that community participation is essential for improving the socio-economic conditions of disadvantaged people. He also praised SOS Children’s Village Sylhet for its relentless efforts in ensuring a better future for underprivileged and orphaned children. He urged all sections of society to contribute to maintaining and expanding such initiatives.
The event was presided over by Md. Mazharul Islam Khan, Assistant Director and In-Charge of SOS Children’s Village Sylhet. Osmani Nagar Upazila Executive Officer Joynal Abedin attended as a special guest. Other notable attendees included Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahnaz Parveen, Chairman of Dayamir Union Parishad STM Fakhr Uddin, and Assistant Director of SOS Social Center Sylhet Tanbir Ahmed. The guests toured the SOS Children’s Village Sylhet and spent time with the children.
SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh has launched the Humanitarian Assistance to the Flood Victims in Sylhet, Bangladesh project to support those affected by the devastating 2024 floods.
