The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has confirmed five new COVID-19 deaths and 36 infections across the country in the 24 hours between 8 am Saturday and 8 am Sunday.
With the latest fatalities, the total number of COVID-19-related deaths this year has risen to 16, according to a DGHS press release.
During the reporting period, 621 samples were tested, yielding a positivity rate of 5.80 percent.
Since the outbreak began in 2020, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the country has reached 29,515.
Bangladesh reported its first case of the coronavirus on March 8, 2020, and recorded its first virus-related death on March 18 of the same year.
