The first session of Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s grand rally commenced on Saturday morning at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Supporters and activists from across the country began arriving at the venue from the early hours, ahead of the formal inauguration scheduled for 2pm.
The morning session began around 10am with recitations from the Holy Quran, followed by speeches from district and city-level leaders of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
Secretary General of the party, Principal Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, was present at the event, which drew a large crowd of party supporters.
Leaders of other political parties who back the demand for introducing proportional representation in the national election system are also expected to join the rally later in the day.
