The next meeting of the commission is scheduled to be held on October 21 at its office in Dhaka. The press release also mentioned that the government is in the process of setting up the commission’s office in the parliament area.
The meeting was presided over by the commission’s head, Professor Ali Riaz, and attended by members Professor Sumaiya Khair, Barrister Imran Siddique, Professor Mohammad Ikramul Haque, Barrister M. Moin Alam Ferozi, Firoz Ahmed, Md. Mustain Billah, and Md. Mahfuz Alam.
At the beginning of the meeting, the commission paid deep respects to those who were martyred, wounded, and tortured during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. They also remembered those who sacrificed their lives and were injured in the struggle to establish democracy in the post-independence period.
The commission further honored the memory of those who were killed, injured, and oppressed during the last 15 years under what was described as a fascist regime, as well as those who lost their lives in anti-discrimination student movements and subsequent uprisings of students and the public. The meeting also expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.
