Sylhet Bureau :
The first Hajj flight will leave Sylhet Osmani International Airport directly for Medina on May 14 (Wednesday). A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG) will arrive in Medina, Saudi Arabia at 5:25 pm on that day with 418 Hajj passengers.
Sylhet District Manager of Bangladesh Biman Md. Shahnewaz Majumdar confirmed the matter and said, ‘The first flight will go directly from Sylhet to Medina next Wednesday. However, instead of going directly to Medina, the flight will reach Medina via the Sylhet-Jeddah route.’
According to Hajj Agency of Bangladesh (Hab), about 2,800 Hajj pilgrims will go to Saudi Arabia on five flights from Sylhet this year. Four more flights will depart from Sylhet directly for Jeddah on May 23, 25, 26 and 29.
According to Hub sources, this time too, the immigration process of most Hajj pilgrims under the ‘Road to Mecca’ program will be completed in Bangladesh. However, the immigration process of passengers leaving Sylhet will be completed in Saudi Arabia.
The concerned officials said that the decision has been taken to operate Hajj flights from Osmani International Airport to reduce the suffering of Hajj pilgrims in the Sylhet region.
According to Hub and Biman information, this year, passengers from other parts of the country will complete immigration in Dhaka and go to Saudi Arabia. However, the immigration of passengers on the first flight on Wednesday will be done at Sylhet Airport.

The Biman authorities said that necessary preparations have already been made to ensure smooth passenger transport and immigration activities.
