Two major fire incidents broke out in the outside of the capital city Dhaka on Saturday.
One fire incident broke out at the dredging pipe warehouse of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in the Borofkol area of Narayanganj and the second fire incident happened in sock manufacturing factory in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
At least 14 fire service units are deployed to douse the fire in two places.
Fire broke out at the BIWTA’s godown around 1:15pm on Saturday, said Fakhar Uddin Ahmed, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj fire service.
Seven units of the Narayanganj Fire Service have been working to douse the flame.
A large number of dredging pipes were burned.
Fakhar Uddin Ahmed said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
“Seven units from Mandalpara and Hajiganj fire stations are working to bring the fire under control. No casualties have been reported so far,” he added.
Noting a major fire incident in the pipe warehouse on 23 November 2018, he said, “Five years later, another fire occurred here. The fire service will investigate the incident.”
On the other hand, a fire that razed a sock manufacturing factory in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Saturday afternoon is still not under firefighters’ control till evening.
No casualties have been reported, however, as of filing this report at 6:30 pm. Md Abdullah Al-Arefin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) in Gazipur said the fire began in one of the floors of the building around 4pm and spread to two and three floors of ‘Glove Gloves (Bangladesh) MFG.CO.LTD.’
Responding to the call, seven firefighting units from Kapasia, Rajendrapur and Joydebpur fire stations rushed to the spot and are still trying to bring the flame under control, he said.
He, however, could not fix the time frame regarding the douse of the blaze.
Though the reason behind the fire is yet to be known, it was feared that the blaze might cause massive damage.
The fire fighters are yet to brought the fire under control till filling the report at 8pm last night.
