UNB, Chuadanga :
A massive fire destroyed betel and corn plantations on around 200 bighas of land in Chuadanga’s Alamdanga on Thursday.
The fire broke out around 10:30 am in Banatkhal field of Khadimpur Union of the upazila, said Khadempur Union Parishad Chairman Mojahidur Rahman Lotus Joaddar.
“It erupted quickly and went out of control,” he added.
On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after five hours of frantic efforts, said Chuadanga Fire Service and Civil Defence official Sentu Mia.
“A probe has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause and damage of the fire,” added the officer.
However, the affected farmers claim that they have lost over Tk 5 crore in the fire.
