Fire breaks out at Gulistan Shopping Complex
Staff Reporter :
A fire broke out at the Khaddar Bazar Shopping Complex in the capital’s Gulistan area on Friday evening, causing heavy losses to goods stored in the building, though no casualties were reported.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence said the blaze started at around 5:28pm in a warehouse located on the roof of the eight-storey commercial building near Gulistan Zero Point.
Firefighting units from Siddiq Bazar Fire Station reached the scene within minutes and began operations at 5:33pm. Initially, five units were deployed. As the fire intensified, additional units were sent in phases, bringing the total to nine.
After nearly one and a half hours of efforts, firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 6:58pm. Fire Service media cell official Anwarul Islam Dolon said there were no immediate reports of casualties.
The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately, and it was not confirmed whether anyone had been trapped inside the building.
Duty officer Rozina Akhtar said the fire took longer to control as the warehouse on the rooftop contained large quantities of goods.
“The presence of stored materials made the operation challenging,” she said, adding that no information on injuries had been received so far.
The shopping complex is a busy commercial hub, particularly in the evening hours. Firefighters continued cooling operations after extinguishing the flames to prevent any further outbreak.
