A fire that broke out Monday evening at the Capital Siraj Centre, a 10-storey shopping mall on Bailey Road in Dhaka, has been brought under control, authorities confirmed.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell, the fire originated at a restaurant on the ground floor and was reported at 6:47pm. The first firefighting unit arrived at the scene by 6:58pm.
Nine units were deployed to tackle the blaze, which was brought under control at 7:47pm.
Firefighters successfully rescued 18 individuals who had been trapped inside the building. No casualties have been reported as of yet.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.
