The Election Commission (EC) on Monday has announced that the final voter list will be released on March 2 next year. The list will be compiled by gathering voter details through a door-to-door survey.
Following the first meeting of the new Election Commission at Agargaon’s Election Bhaban on Monday, Election Commissioner and retired Brigadier General Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaaullah briefed the media, announcing that the final voter list would be published on March 2 next year.
Under the leadership of AMM Nasir Uddin, the newly appointed Election Commission (EC) convened for its first meeting and the meeting focused on three key agendas– preparing the new voter list for the 13th national parliamentary election, resolving objections related to parliamentary constituency boundaries, and forming four committees under the leadership of the four election commissioners.
Election Commissioner M Sanaullah said, “1.7 million new citizens will be added to the voter list by January 1, with updates continuing through door-to-door visits from January 2 to March 2. While 4.5 million citizens are eligible to become voters, about 2.7 million have yet to register. Efforts will be made to ensure accuracy by removing deceased voters and addressing any issues like dual registrations.”
The commissioner mentioned that it will take around six months to complete all activities, including the door-to-door data collection process. During the meeting, four separate committees were formed to oversee different aspects of the electoral process.
