Ferry ghat submerged due to heavy rains in haor

Due to continuous rains and hilly terrains coming down from upstream, the water level of various rivers in Kishoreganj is rising rapidly. As the water level of various rivers including Ghorautra and Dhanu in the district is rising, all the navigable roads of Balikhola, Mithamoin, Chittata, Itna, Bajitpur and Ashtagram in Karimganj upazila, known as the gateway to the haor, have already been submerged. Due to the submerged roads, 5 ferry services of the Roads and Townships Department have been closed.

Due to the rising water level, the roads connecting the haor with Balikhola and Chittaghat ferry stations in Karimganj upazila, Shantipur ferry station in Mithamoin upazila, and Boribari and Balda ferry station in Itna upazila have been submerged, and ferry services have been suspended since morning.

According to the Water Development Board (WDB) of Kishoreganj, the water level of all the rivers in the haor area has increased in the last 24 hours. However, it has not crossed the danger level yet. Due to the sudden suspension of ferry services, direct road communication with the district headquarters is closed. However, many people are crossing the river by boat and traveling by road.

Roads & Highways Department (RHD ), Executive Engineer Shakil Mohammad Faisal of Kishoreganj , said that, the road to the ferry ghat has been submerged due to the rising water level. Therefore, ferry services have been stopped.

Engineer Md. Sajjad Hossain, Executive Engineer in Water Development Board (WDB) said that the water in the haor is rising every day. However, the water level in any river has not crossed the danger level yet.
